Three units of the Reina Sofía University Hospital in Córdoba received quality certification this Monday from the Andalusian Health Quality Agency (ACSA), an entity of the Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs in charge of promoting quality and continuous improvement in the health system. .

As the autonomous Administration has detailed in a note, these are the Otorhinolaryngology and Urology units, which have obtained the first level of certification (Advanced) and the Palliative Care Unit, certified at the highest level (Excellent). With this recognition they demonstrate their commitment to excellence and continuous improvement of the service they offer to citizens, guaranteeing that their activity conforms to the quality standards defined in the certification manuals of the Andalusian Health Quality Agency.

The territorial delegate of Health and Consumer Affairs in Córdoba, María Jesús Botella, attended the ceremony to present the quality badges, which was held in the hospital’s assembly hall; the managing director of the Hospital, Francisco de Asís Triviño; the director of the ACSA, José Ignacio del Río, as well as the management team and the hospital’s quality unit, and the managers and professionals of the certified units.

The Palliative Care unit has achieved the Excellent level, the maximum of the three levels provided by the ACSA progressive model, meeting nearly 100% of the total standards. Likewise, all areas of improvement detected have been improved.

In its report, the ACSA highlights some aspects such as the involvement of this unit with citizens through work with volunteers and associations of patients and caregivers, seeking emotional improvement and support in the acceptance process, and the clear orientation towards the patient, with the humanization and personalization of care being core aspects of the work in the unit.

The Otorhinolaryngology Unit has obtained the Advanced level, the first of the three levels of the ACSA model, achieved by meeting more than 60% of the standards provided for by the specific ACSA program for Health Management Units.

Excellent results have been observed in areas such as patient rights and continuity of care, patient safety, support or leadership, and unit organization. The unit has numerous support resources for the patient or their caregiver and collaborates with different patient associations. The involvement of professionals in making the mother-child area a friendlier environment stands out, thus promoting humanization in care and attention.

The Urology unit, also certified at an Advanced level, meets nearly 60% of the standards provided by the ACSA’s specific program for Health Management Units. In this case, 97 areas of improvement have been identified, reaching a total of 77.

The ACSA highlights that the unit participates in different research projects and disseminates its clinical practice through scientific articles in journals with an impact factor. Likewise, the high commitment of the unit’s staff to the quality of the service provided stands out, which demonstrates their professionalism and involvement. The unit enhances the autonomy of patients with an indication for a prostate biopsy or undergoing prostate cancer surgery, providing them with tools that allow them to participate in decision-making about their process.
