Two armed criminals stole cheap wine and a pack of cigarettes from a kiosk in São Tomé, but were arrested shortly after. The incident occurred this Sunday night.

The premises are located near the intersection of Rivadavia and General López streets. A police patrol arrived at the scene shortly after due to calls from neighbors to the 911 Emergency Center.

The owner of the business, 54 years old, had gone out in pursuit of the thieves and the uniformed officers followed in her footsteps.

The police ran into the victim near the corner of Iriondo and Almirante Brown. She was still running to one of the suspects. They helped her and caught up with the subject, who did not put up much resistance.

The woman told them that she was one of the assailants who broke into her kiosk, which is also her home. One of them threatened to kill her with a firearm while her accomplice took the bottle of wine and a bundle of cigarettes.

The loot had already been recovered when the uniformed officers arrived, because the criminals unloaded it a few blocks back in the face of the relentless persecution of the newsstand.

The detainee then said that his accomplice lived with him in a house on 1700 Necochea Street.

The police went to the scene, but no one was there.

Minutes later, they learned that an individual who matched the characteristics provided by the victim had been arrested nearby, in Necochea and Iriondo.

The suspects are 28 and 32 years old. Both were at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
