Euskal Fondoa.- The “La Vieja” project is an audiovisual expression of this collaborative relationship. It revolves around a short fiction film (9 minutes and 47 seconds long) “La Vieja. A Tale of Havana” directed by Raúl San Román and produced by Euskal Fondoa in collaboration with the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana and IKAIKA Media, and in tribute to the 500th Anniversary of the city (2019).

Since 2002, the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana-OHH and the municipal services of Vitoria-Gasteiz, within the framework of the programs of the Association of Cooperating Basque Local Entities Euskal Fondoa in Cuba, have maintained a relationship of financial and collaboration technical in the field of care for the elderly in order to offer a more diversified and higher quality service in the municipality of Habana Vieja.

The “La Vieja” project is an audiovisual expression of this collaborative relationship. It revolves around a fiction short film (9 minutes and 47 seconds long) “The old woman. A tale from Havana” directed by Raúl San Román and produced by Euskal Fondoa in collaboration with the Office of the Historian of the city of Havana and IKAIKA Media, and in tribute to the 500th Anniversary of the city (2019).

The protagonists are the users of the services offered by the Directorate of Humanitarian Affairs for Older Persons of the OHH. The two main ones are:

  • Haydée Arteaga, 104 years old, known as Señora de los Cuentos, a renowned Cuban literary author who currently resides in an apartment in the protected Residences on Havana Street, a center rehabilitated and equipped within the framework of this international cooperation relationship.
  • María Eugenia Pineda, 105 years old, user of the Comprehensive Care Center for the Elderly (Old Convent of Our Lady of Belén), in whose rehabilitation, equipment and provision of services we continue to collaborate.

It is accompanied by another 11-minute audiovisual product, which under the title “Euskal Fondoa-Havana: care for the elderly” which through images and interviews documents the collaborative relationship that we have been maintaining with the Office of the Historian for almost two decades.

After its premiere in Havana in April 2019, it was re-released in Vitoria-Gasteiz in March 2020; Since then it has been available to entities interested in organizing some dissemination activity (talk and screening). Contact us.
