The ‘Guzmán el Bueno X’ Brigade of Córdoba has completed its participation in the third rotation of the European Union Military Assistance Mission in Support of Ukraine (Eumam-UA III), “consolidating itself as a fundamental pillar in the support that the Kingdom of “Spain is providing training to the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Internal Security Forces,” according to a statement.

Throughout these six monthsthe brigade has led the mission, exercising command and control and coordinating these training activities highlighting its ability to plan, conduct and execute operations both nationally and internationally.

From December 5, 2023 to June 6, 2024, Brigade Toledo Training Coordination Center (TTCC), structure created for the development of training programs in support of Ukraine, in the first instance under the command of General Ignacio Olazábal Elorz and later of General Fernando Ruiz Gómez, as the new head of Bri X. Based in Burgos, this Headquarters has directed and coordinated the training activities identified in favor of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as its Internal Security Forces.

The EUMAM-UA III contingent has been permanently composed of a total of 155 troopsmostly from Brigade under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Julio Juan Fernández Álvarez de Sotomayor.

To this number of troops transferred on a permanent basis, other troops from the Army, Navy, Air and Space Army and Civil Guard have been added intermittently, to provide training modules of limited duration and different specializations.

During the operation’s mandate, Euman-UA III has directed the training of around almost 2,000 Ukrainian soldiersdirecting a broad spectrum of training activities more than 30 units which has included: basic combat training, operations planning, leadership, antiterrorism, combat in urban areas, combating improvised explosive devices, demining, sapper training, medical care for combat casualties, HAWK anti-aircraft missile system operators, maintenance armored tracked transport, geospatial technicians and artillery forward observers. These activities have been developed mainly in Toledowith some specific courses carried out at other expressly designated bases.

After the relief and transfer of authority that took place on June 6 in Burgos, the ‘Guzmán el Bueno Galicia VII Brigade “with the satisfaction of having contributed to the strengthening of the operational capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, showing the permanent availability and preparation of the Bri X to face the missions entrusted to it in response to Spain’s commitments to international security and loyally serving the King,” the statement concludes.
