Triple premiere | Cuyo’s diary

He left San Juan a while ago to study film in Córdoba. He spent several years doing this, but when in 2019 he decided to return to his homeland, where he thought there was more scope to deploy this language; A theatrical experience in which he ventured caught him with force and changed his path. After participating in some acting workshops and a couple of plays, Marcos Garcés knew that was what he was really looking for and he dove headfirst into this universe. And with some experience gained and a great desire to do things, he decided to take the bull by the horns: he wrote his work, looked for a director, set up his own theater and tomorrow he will premiere his own one-man show as the protagonist and in his own space. he. “Never leave again, Mom,” is the proposal with which he will make his “official presentation” in The Greenhouse, as he named his living room.

“The truth is that I have dedicated myself more to cinema, but when I returned to San Juan, when I was in a somewhat strange state starting to meet people again and seeing where to go, I started doing theater with Lanotannegra and I said “Ugh , this is what I have to do.” There I fell in love with theater, I began to dedicate myself more to this and I really wanted to be on stage. I knew a group from La Rioja, called Entre Montañas, and I asked one of its members, Paula Baigorrí (graduate in Acting from the UNA) to direct me, I was interested in her look, and we started to put together this one-woman show that I have created,” Marcos told DIARIO DE CUYO, for whom it will be like his “official launch” on the stage, one that puts a lot at stake.

As for the work itself, its creator noted that “it was born from the viscera.” “It is a topic that, although it can be quite self-referential, I think it appeals to everyone and everyone can identify with what he talks about. It is about love, it is related to the maternal and how we have learned to love, sometimes in a bad way; with what we have experienced with television, with our parents; with how one is rehabilitated and falls back into the networks of love,” he will say, measuring his words so as not to “spoil” too much. “The text is mine and the dramaturgy is in conjunction with the director, who lives in La Rioja, so she went a little from a distance, I went or she came; and I also worked with Josefina De Cara, from the same group, who provided directing assistance recently,” he said.

“I think it is good that there are other spaces in San Juan, because they enable more meetings and other possibilities to do…” Marcos Garcés – Actor

As for the format, the actor recognizes the level of exposure that comes with standing alone with his soul before the audience, but it does not intimidate him. “It is something that he had not experienced – he realizes it out loud, with a reflective tone – but it is beautiful all the same, because the work was born from the desire to act; and I half realized that if I didn’t do it, maybe it wasn’t going to happen; so I thought I had to do something to make it happen,” added Garcés, who – beyond the change of direction he is going through – cannot detach himself from that cinematographic gaze that has already become flesh. “Of course, because there is a lot of material from that in one, it is what I have incorporated the most so far. I suppose it will be reflected in the image, in the idea I have of how I want the work to look,” he confirmed, highlighting in parallel the work of Tachi Saez (Lanotannegra) in the lights. “That adds enormous quality to what you see. Yes, I had an idea and we worked on it with the director, but it wouldn’t be the same if Tachi wasn’t involved in it,” said the young man, who in October of last year immersed himself in this project, to which he later added the space.

“I think there is a lot of the economic situation that also has weight in this, because it is increasingly difficult to produce and rent a space to rehearse and to do works, the costs were many… So, since I was already rehearsing in this space that is mine, I said ‘Well, why not here?’” because I liked this idea of it being a more intimate format. It is a mini theater for small plays and small audience capacity, which can also be used as a rehearsal room. Furthermore, I think it is good that there are other spaces in San Juan, because they enable more meetings and other possibilities of doing… And it is looking for a way back to the context, which is what also gives us life, because without this project I don’t know what I would be doing, “Perhaps I would be in a total crisis,” laughed the creator, who – he confessed – had been left “a bit with the pike” of La Casa Roja, a cultural space that he integrated, which could not prosper. Finally, it remained to give a name to the room (with capacity for 16 people seated) and he chose a very symbolic one: “I named it ‘The Greenhouse’ because I feel that it is the place where things can flourish despite the external conditions,” he shared, mobilized and expectant for everything that is to come.

“It’s an exit into the ring with everything, the room, the play, the protagonist… It’s a lot!” he will say with enthusiasm before an expressive silence. “Is strong. I have anxiety, excitement, a lot of things… Last week was very intense, now a little calmer, but I am very happy, I am very excited,” declared Garcés, ready for the “big – premiere – big” in his payments.
