Torrico explained that from Friday to Monday, inclusive, several forest fires were detected in the province.
Regarding this, he indicated: “Jujuy is geographically complex and there is availability of fuel for fires. On Friday, Saturday and Monday, we had fires in Tilcara, Palpalá, Dr Manuel Belgrano, Tumbaya, Humahuaca, Santa Bárbara, Palma Sola, El Carmenand other sectors”.

SINAME reported that due to the possibility of strong winds in some sectors of the country, fire danger conditions increased in several provinces. Among them are: Jujuy, Salta, Tucumán, Santiago del Estero, Catamarca, Chaco, Formosa, La Rioja, San Juan, Santa Fe, Corrientes, and Misiones.

In this sense, the conditions of fire danger were announced between June 14 and 18. High temperatures, low levels of humidity and intense winds predominating from the North sector are expected for these sectors.
For this reason, pertinent monitoring and care is requested, since these conditions could remain at high values, particularly the availability of fine fuel.
How to avoid forest fires
To prevent forest fires in Jujuy, the following recommendations can be followed:
- Do not throw lit cigarette butts, matches or broken bottles, as they can be a means of generating fire due to the intensity of the sun.
- Avoid lighting bonfires, as a simple bonfire can turn into a large fire.
- Take precautions when lighting a fire or carrying out a controlled burn, requesting the corresponding authorization.
- Be aware that the wildfire season can be more complicated due to the great drought, north wind and heat.
