The ability to participate in the generation, evaluation and improvement of ideas is a definition of creative thinking. Colombia is not doing well in this regard, according to tests carried out among its member countries by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

According to a newspaper report The Republic, Colombia ranked 28th among the 64 countries that participated in the measurement. The country obtained 26 points, which represented seven points below the OECD average and is the lowest record within the economies that belong to that club of good practices.

The measurement was made within the Pisa tests (Program for International Student Assessment), which measure quality in education.

The OECD explained that in mathematics, which is one of the branches studied within creative thinking, Colombia reached 3 points, but in reading it scored zero.

The leader in the general ranking, which includes OECD countries and others that do not belong to the organization, is Singapore, with 41 points,

Regarding location in the list of OECD members, the best qualified are South Korea and Canada, with 38 points each; followed by Australia, with 37; and New Zealand, with 36.

“In Brazil, Colombia, Jamaica and Panama, students scored relatively lower in creative thinking after taking into account their reading performance, despite obtaining one point more than expected to take into account,” the study analyzed.

Fifth in the region

Regarding the countries in the region, Colombia ranked fifth and is surpassed by Chile, which scored 31 points; Mexico and Uruguay, with 29 points each; and Costa Rica, with 27.

Colombia appeared better placed than Peru, Brazil, Panama and El Salvador, all with 23 points.

According to the OECD, creative thinking explained that it is one of the fundamental and most in-demand characteristics of the global labor market and will gain more momentum, among them, due to socioeconomic advances.
