This Tuesday, at the Casa de Nariño, the President Gustavo Petro possessed the lawyer Carlos Hernán Rodríguez as comptroller general, after the full Congress elected him last week with 265 votes. He entrusted him with taking care of public money.

“The Comptroller’s Office, as an independent body, has a fundamental job of keeping money and fighting corruption. That public money is not undermined and that it has efficient use. The Comptroller’s Office has been able to detect, in the year of covid, for example, a leak of money that did not go to the Social Rule of Law,” Petro told Rodríguez.

The president added that Rodríguez comes to command the Comptroller’s Office in times of tension, but that these mean change and stated that: “in my government there have also been inefficiencies because we have lacked speed.”

Subsequently, the president emphasized the debate taking place in Congress on the statutory education law, saying that it remains to be defined whether or not access to public education is a fundamental right in the country.

He concluded by reiterating that the Peace Agreement, signed between Colombian government and the extinct FARCgives you free rein to make changes in the law with the aim of complying with what was agreed.
