A 19-year-old young man died while swimming with a friend in the pool at the “21 de Abril” Sports Center in Puerto Aysén. The tragedy occurred while a SAMU official was at the scene who tried to provide first aid. Despite his efforts, when the SAMU staff on duty from Puerto Aysén arrived, they confirmed his death.
Prosecutor Alex Olivero, who appeared to begin the investigation, explained that the young man, accompanied by a 16-year-old minor, had been doing exercises in the machine area before entering the pool. While they were swimming, the minor noticed that his friend was submerged and motionless. Initially he thought it was a joke, but when he picked him up, he realized the seriousness and noticed the situation, at which point the SAMU official intervened to remove the deceased from the water and begin resuscitation maneuvers.
The young man’s mother was at the scene, with whom the prosecutor spoke to explain the procedure to follow. The 19-year-old was a student at the Raúl Broussain Campino high school, and his loss has shocked the local community. The Homicide Brigade and the Legal Medical Service are carrying out the relevant procedures to clarify the exact circumstances of the death.
