They sign an agreement to contain and exclude Fusarium in 305 farms

ICA and Aasbama sign a new technical cooperation agreement to contain and exclude 305 banana and plantain producers from the departments of Magdalena, Cesar and La Guajira from Fusarium Race 4 Tropical.

Under Resolution 2081 of 2024 “By which the National Plan for Prevention, Surveillance and Control of Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. cubense Race 4 Tropical – FOC R4T – throughout the national territory”, these activities are established again between the banana union and the national government, given the importance that this agroindustrial sector has for Colombia.

“We manage resources with the national government to continue working on all the processes of prevention, containment and mitigation of the impacts that FocR4T may have in our departments of Magdalena, Cesar and La Guajira (…) sampling, phytosanitary monitoring, delivery of biosafety kits, support personnel and the reinforcement of the laboratory in Zona Bananera, are components that are an integral part of the agreement,” said José Francisco Zúñiga Cotes, Executive President of Asbama.

In this fifth consecutive year of prevention, surveillance and control actions, the results obtained by Agrosavia in its investigations were reviewed to include mitigation actions. This is how the delivery of biological products with beneficial bacteria and fungi (Bacillus and Trichoderma) will be promoted, as well as fertilizers, since the soils of this region lack some nutrients that are correlated with the establishment of the disease or pathogen in the crop area.
