Coming out more than once

“There is a myth that coming out is a single act in life, but for me it has been a process”commented Leandro, who also works as a streamer in Santa Fe.

His first coming out of the closet was at the age of 15, when he told his best friend that he liked boys, full of shame and wishing it weren’t like that. But he didn’t stop there: at 19, he told his parents that he had a boyfriend, and at 21, his mother informed the entire family of this situation to avoid surprises at a meeting.

For Leandro, each new relationship involves renegotiating when and how much to share about his sexuality, always considering his personal safety.

words hurt

Leandro bitterly remembers his time in high school, where both teachers and classmates made him feel the weight of systemic homophobia. “There were times when certain signs from the direction indicated that it was better not to occupy certain visibility areas”he related.

The homophobia It came not only from the educational system, but also from his own peers, especially other males who saw him as an easy target for ridicule and contempt. The subtle attacks, such as shouting his name in an effeminate and mocking tone, made him afraid to go out into the street, to avoid facing humiliation and fear of physical violence.

Pride in militancy and their companions

Leandro feels deep pride in his militancy. “I transformed what was pure suffering into an opportunity to meet other people who went through the same thing and turned it into an act of service to others,” he said.

As a member of the Pride Tableturned his initial wound into something beautiful. “Pride is a decision, a path of life, where you choose to never again keep quiet about who you are and you realize that you are not alone. There is always someone who will be there for you.”he reflected.

Leandro Wolkovicz continues to inspire the LGTBQ+ community with her story of resilience and her tireless work as an activist. Her life is a reminder that pride and militancy can transform pain into a powerful force for change.
