Moniquirá is another of the municipalities that in Boyacá has had to declare a red alert, to be able to face the strong winter.

“Yesterday there were eight landslides and landslides that occurred to us, two of them serious on the national highway, one in the La Cumbre sector and the other at the entrance to the urban area, in the lower sector of the Las Colinas neighborhood, near of the pedestrian bridge,” he explained to Boyacá Sie7e DaysMayor Fredy Iovanny Pardo Pinzón.

The president added that he had to accept the recommendation of the Risk Prevention Committee declaring the red alert in order to better address the serious situation that arises due to the severe winter.

“When the earthworks came, it brought poles, an aqueduct, crops, animals and everything. “We are coming from a very long summer season and the earth is cracked, that’s why with these two-day downpours, of course the water filters and recharges to the point that it ends up generating movements and landslides,” added the leader of Moniquirá.

Moniquirá has 32 villages and about 10 are affected, but six of these have been very affected, so the municipal authorities are trying to prevent greater damage than what has already occurred.

“We have two streams and a river that pass through the urban area and fortunately we had dredged them and unclogged the sewers with the vactor, a preparation that has helped us avoid further damage, and even a real tragedy, because the winter has been very strong,” said Pardo Pinzón.

The mayor added that there are no victims, but there are people and families who have had to evacuate their homes, because the eight landslides and collapses have not been, nor will they be the only ones recorded in that municipality, especially if we take into account that for example The Moniquirá River, which originates in Sutamarchán, brings water from neighboring municipalities where it is also raining heavily.

“The weather has been very strong, it had been raining non-stop for two days and the levels of the Moniquirá river had already reached their highest level,” said the mayor of Moniquirá.
