Neighbors of Zua Ciudad Esmeralda residential complex, located in Zipaquirá, informed the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Cundinamarca (CAR) about the appearance of bad odors and an iridescent appearance in the waters from the El Molino ravine, adjacent to the urbanization. These reports led to an inspection by the CAR.

During the visit, technicians from the CAR’s Sabana Centro Regional Directorate confirmed the possible domestic wastewater discharge in the ravine

“The discharge of water was evident with a surface layer of litmus, characteristic of the presence of fats and oils, and we perceived odors at the discharge head,” indicated Yuri Ramírez, regional director of CAR Sabana Centro.

The community had expressed concern about the bad odors and the unusual appearance of the water, factors that motivated the intervention of the environmental authority. The car has initiated a sanctioning procedure against the administration of the residential complex for failing to comply with current environmental regulations.

These types of practices, according to the CAR, not only alter water sources and affect local fauna and flora, but also represent a significant health risk of the people who depend on the water from the El Molino stream.

The El Molino stream is an important water source for the region, and the contamination of its waters has direct repercussions on the ecosystem and the communities that depend on it. The CAR emphasized that it is essential that urbanizations and residential complexes comply with environmental regulations to prevent this type of incidents.
