When they were traveling along the main road of the town of Santa Isabel, a rural area of the municipality of Curumaní, Cesar, two bodyguards from the UNP National Protection Unit, were victims of a shooting attack by armed individuals who tried to stop their march.

The victims were traveling in a van with NIY-418 plates, which was intercepted by the criminals in the middle of a public road. According to the testimony of one of those affected, the subjects tried to stop the truck, however, when they refused, they fired several shots at them.

The two bodyguards were unharmed in the attack, while the vehicle suffered some damage.

According to the Special Instance of Ethnic Peoples derived from the 2016 Peace Agreement, the security scheme belongs to its general secretary in La Uribia-La Guajira, Armando Wouriyu, who at the time was not in the van.

There were seven shots that hit the vehicle in different parts, including the panoramic glass and the trunk, but fortunately there were no injuries or deaths. The attackers were traveling in a Chevrolet Dmax truck.

The Court requested that Armando Wouriyu’s security measures be reinforced and, in turn, the Peace Agreement Implementation Unit regretted the attack and highlighted Armando Wouriyu’s work with the indigenous communities.

The authorities are investigating to determine if it was an attack or if it was a possible attempt to steal the truck.
