President Gustavo Petro visited the Cauca department for the launch of the ‘Mission Cauca’ strategy

The president, Gustavo Petro, spoke during the launch, in Popayán, of the ‘Mission Cauca’ strategy, with which the National and departmental Government is committed to leveraging the economic, productive, cultural and social transformations in this region of the country.

“The fundamental problem that is determining the violence in the department of Cauca is illicit crops,” said the president in his speech.

“It seems that Cauca has always lived in war, but our challenge is how to get out of war and move on to peace,” added the head of state from Popayán.

Furthermore, President Petro assured that “the issue of transforming an excluded territory into a prosperous territory is, neither more nor less, the definition of peace.”

“The entire territory must be changed, and that is not done with a monetary transfer, it is done with popular organization.”

With this ‘Mission Cauca’ strategy, the Government is clear that strategies must be implemented from the State that contribute to the construction of a more just society.

“The Army has to assume a responsibility here, obviously in conjunction with the Government,” said the president.
