This Friday, starting at 8 p.m., La Roja will debut in the Copa América in the United States. The national team will face Peru at the AT&T Stadium and Ricardo Gareca will seek his first victory by points in the National Team.
So far, the ‘Tigre’ has led Chile in three friendlies and has achieved two victories and one defeat. They beat Albania and Paraguay 3-0, and lost 3-2 to France.
Gareca, yes, does not work alone. At his side he has a large staff that allows him to pay attention to all the details. His technical assistants, for example, are two: the Uruguayan-Colombian Sergio Santín and the Argentine Hugo Alves.
Santín has accompanied Ricardo Gareca since 2005, while Alves has done so since 2015. Both enjoyed together with ‘Tigre’, among other things, the historic classification of the Peruvian team to the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
In physical preparation, Gareca also has two names: the Argentine Néstor Bonillo and the Chilean Sebastián Rojas. The latter, by the way, worked with Martín Lasarte in La Roja and with Patricio Ormazábal in the Under 20 National Team.
If we talk about the person in charge of training the goalkeepers, that is Bruno Vásquez. The Chilean adds experiences in the Youth Soccer of the U, in the Qatar Under 23 National Team and in Aspire Academy, one of the most important football academies in the world.
On the other hand, in the analysis section, Gareca has the help of the Chilean Matías González and the Argentines Taiel Bonillo, Lucas Argento and Tomás Argento. The latter are twins, they were hockey players and at the time they collaborated as ‘spies’ for ‘Tigre’ in Peru.
Closing the Gareca staff Rodrigo Cauas appears, a Chilean sports psychologist who has a lot of experience in his area. The professional has worked, for example, in several clubs (today he is in Deportes Limache) and in the Chilean Olympic Committee.
