A worrying situation faces the business sector in the capital of Nariño, due to multiple situations that have affected different sectors such as tourism, commercial, construction and transportation as low economic growth is reported.

Determinants

The constant blockades on the Pan-American highway have been decisive for the region’s economy since so far this year, more than 44 blockades have occurred, which has generated great losses for companies.

According to the director of Fenalco, Eugenia Zarama, the municipality of Pasto presents an increase in unemployment figures, in addition to the increase in informality of approximately 68% as a consequence of many factors and inadequate management by administrations.

“The closure of many establishments is noted, in the month of March more than 6 thousand registrations were not renewed, the situation is very complex and we make the urgent call because we need greater investment in roads and infrastructure,” said Zarama.

Interruptions

Tourism is another of the most affected points, since according to what was stated by the president of Cotelco, Doris Ruano, in the current semester hotel occupancy ranges between 42 and 32%, figures that represent losses for the sector.

“The weather conditions have not been optimal for adequate development of tourism, there has been an increase in closures at the airport, which is extremely detrimental to our work due to the frequent interruption,” he emphasized.

Another concern is due to the low hiring of personnel by companies in the hotel sector since, if no reservations or visits are made, the establishments are forced to close and therefore not have the services of employees.
