As a way to rest and get to know new places, many Argentines decided to take advantage of this extra long weekend, for Flag Day added to the long weekend holiday on Friday, June 21, to go sightseeing throughout the country. On this XXL weekend even San Juan residents chose to visit places in the province and take a mini vacation. In this sense, the Ministry of Tourism reported that, so far, hotel occupancy has increased by almost 20%, compared to the long weekend of June 17, which did not leave good numbers in San Juan.

The encouraging data for the tourism sector was confirmed by Belén Barboza, secretary of the area, to HUARPE DIARY. The official assured that during this extra long weekend, hotel occupancy reached a total of 64% throughout the province. This number was encouraging, since until last weekend, the demand for hotel rooms only reached 45%.

According to the statistics that Barboza provided to this medium, so far hotel occupancy in Greater San Juan has reached a total of 60%. While the remote departments most chosen by tourists were Calingasta with 81% and Valle Fértil with 80%. With respect to the Northern departments, hotel occupancy did not show such positive numbers, since they were below 50%. In the case of Iglesia the demand was 49%, while in Jáchal it was only close to 34%.

Although tourism in San Juan rebounded compared to last long weekend, Barboza commented that they expect good numbers for the winter holidays. In this sense, he commented that there are already many inquiries from national and foreign tourists to visit the province, and stated that the portfolio is working with all departments to expand the offer of activities.
