Havana.- THE SELECTION Cuba will face Canada in the duel for the bronze medal of the 2024 Pan American Men’s U-17 Volleyball Cup, which will lower its curtains today in the Mexican city of Colima.

The Island team tried this Friday to advance to the final, but their path was crossed by that of Mexico, which remained undefeated in the tournament after winning four sets with scores of 25-12, 22-25, 25-18 and 25-17.

The Aztecs imposed their law in the attack with a 42-31 advantage and had a notable majority from the service line, signing seven aces, for only one the Antilleans. Both teams built seven “walls” next to the net, but the Cubans committed 35 unforced errors, while their rivals were reduced to 27.

The opposite Yosdani Medina tried to change the course of the game by becoming the top scorer with 21 points, but he was the only Cuban with double figures. On the other side, the Mexicans distributed their attack better, with Oskar González and Emi Díaz scoring 17 and 16 cards, respectively, while Ricardo González contributed 11.

The outcome opened the door for Mexico to the final this Saturday against Puerto Rico, which in the other semifinal also beat Canada in four sets with scores of 25-20, 22-25, 25-23 and 25-20.

In another duel this Friday, the representative of Guatemala took over the fifth seat, beating Nicaragua 3-2, which will face Costa Rica on the closing day to define the ordering of places six and seven.
