“The people are not silent”: Conade calls for a new ’roundabout’ this Monday in Santa Cruz

The National Committee for the Defense of Democracy (Conade) once again calls on the Santa Cruz population to a ‘peaceful roundabout this Monday, June 24, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., to demand responses from the government to the economic crisis that affects the country, particularly on the issue of the shortage of dollars and the irregular sale of fuel.

Roger Castellón, spokesperson for Conade, pointed out that this roundabout is carried out in support of the demands of heavy transport and in repudiation of the “denialism” of President Luis Arce Catacora, who, according to Castellón, insists on a “false narrative” of stability and balance that does not reflect the reality that is experienced on the streets.

“This roundabout is also being done in favor and joining the demands of heavy transport –not to the measures, to the demands-, because we consider that the issue of the economic crisis not only affects heavy transportation, but also affects all Santa Cruz residents and all Bolivians,” said Castellón.

He also expressed his support for the specific demands of heavy transportation regarding the resignation of the Minister of Public Works, Services and Housing, Édgar Montaño. According to the Conade spokesperson, Montaño “not only these last few days The transportation sector has been mocked, with those supposed work tables; but also in previous times, with the peaceful protest from Santa Cruz, he with his blue warriors, not only through social networks, but physically and violently, has generated disturbances, has generated conflicts in Santa Cruz.”

What does the roundabout imply?

According to Castellón, the roundabout consists of going out to the squares and roundabouts of the city in a peaceful way. The protesters will not obstruct the vehicular passage nor the pedestrian, but they will seek to raise awareness among citizens about the economic crisis that affects the country.

“The people are not silentthe people have completely lost their fear because today we really see each other affected by this crisis and we demand that the government respond immediately,” said Catellón.

First roundabout

Last Monday, June 17, Conade carried out a first roundabout in Santa Cruz against the shortage of dollars and the irregular sale of fuel. The demonstration took place peacefully and without incident.
