Mariana Larrea, a young woman from Pila, one of the least populated Buenos Aires districts with just over 4,000 inhabitants, reported having been the victim of a terrible attack last Friday, June 21. In a conversation with the local media Urgente Ayacucho, the girl shared the chilling details of the case.

According to Mariana, she was with a friend drinking mate near her house on the night of June 20. After saying goodbye to her and heading towards the square, she was surprised by two people who grabbed her from behind her, put a bag over her head and hit her in the stomach to prevent her from screaming. They dragged her to a dark area without cameras, threatened her with a knife and brutally attacked her for hours.

“They dragged me one more block, until they reached Circunvalación, where they threw me into a ditch and began to torture me. “They cut my abdomen and legs with a knife and glass, and then they raped me repeatedly with a pipe,” said the victim, who explained that the attack continued until the early hours of the morning.

Mariana was found by a group of young people in a ditch and they called 911. However, she was disappointed because the police did not act appropriately. At the hospital, they performed a poor medical examination and did not document her injuries. “At the guard they took out the tube that was in my vagina and only did the vaginal and anal examination, without taking photos of my wounds on my body,” the young woman warned.

The complainant is part of a group on Instagram called “We Can Talk,” which seeks to give a voice to victims of abuse and harassment in the community. That is why the young woman suspects that the attackers could have acted in retaliation for her activism.

“All this happened a day after we announced on the page that we would begin testimonies from victims to authorities. Also, the people who did this to me knew that there were no cameras in the place where they raped me,” she shared.

The Pila community is currently mobilizing in support of Mariana and is planning a march to demand justice. “This week there will be a mobilization to demand justice and I hope that the abusers are found,” the complainant concluded.
