FORMENTERA, June 25. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of the Formentera Island Council, Llorenç Córdoba, has criticized the “hypocritical attitude” of the Sa Unió councilors in rejecting his latest proposal by which José Manuel Alcaraz would be admitted back into the government team, “when he was the only point they wanted to discuss in the negotiations a couple of weeks ago,” he stated.

Córdoba has assured that “Now that I agree to their only claim for the good of the governability of the Consell, they reject it like all my previous proposals. All this does is show that, from Sa Unió, only the paralysis of the institution,” Córdoba said in a statement.

Likewise, he has indicated that the refusal of all groups to participate in a Government Board in which political parties are represented responds solely to a desire to “block the institution” and try to coerce him into resigning from his position. “Something I’m not going to do because they haven’t put any reason on the table yet,” he insisted.

“The people decided that Sa Unió would govern with an absolute majority and that PSOE and Gent per Formentera would remain in the opposition. This is the mandate of the people and it is what I, as president, will maintain,” he added.

Likewise, he has criticized that the councilors of Sa Unió and the opposition are “tightening” him to expel him from the presidency “and citizens have to ask themselves why all political groups are interested in ousting the democratically elected president.”

In this sense, he described it as “surprising” that both Sa Unió and the opposition found a common front against him when the issue of the specifications for the beach kiosks was raised, which led them to vote jointly to awarded to the best-rated options “despite both internal and external reports that advised against it.”

Regarding the possibility of the motion of censure proposed by Gent per Formentera together with PSOE and Compromís succeeding, the president of the Consell has stated that, in the event that the three councilors of this party leave Sa Unió to vote with the opposition groups, will become non-attached councilors “so they will not be able to be councilors of the government team.”

“I have shown that I know how to give in and be flexible in a negotiation,” he assured after his last proposal in which he accepted the return of José Manuel Alcaraz, and “the councilors of Sa Unió have shown the opposite.”
