The “Joseph Tantete Dubruiller” Workshop School, attached to the Office of the Conservator of the City of Cienfuegos, offers enrollment in the specialties of Masonry, Carpentry, Ceramics, Welding and Gardening for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Having passed the ninth grade and having turned seventeen years old constitute the only requirements to undertake the two-year path in which the essential tools will be obtained to qualify as workers in any of the aforementioned areas.

Milagros Borges Morfa, director of the institution, said that the most in-demand specialties are: Masonry, Ceramics and Gardening. “In the case of Ceramics, the students are linked to the Local Development Project (PDL) of the Office that markets ceramic and wood elements, with great acceptance in the exhibitions and fairs in which we have participated.”

The board added that during the training period they put into practice the maxim of “learning by doing” through the connection of the students with the restoration of the heritage works of the Historic Center of the city.

Despite the prestige held by the teaching staff of the School of Restoration Trades in this province, once they graduate their qualified workers have no job placement.

Borges Morfa lamented this and said that it is a debt to his graduates, “but the Office of the Conservator has not yet approved the formation of its own restoration brigades, nor does it offer improvement, which is why young people opt for self-employment.” own or link to micro, small or medium-sized companies related to their studies.”

The centre has an enrolment of 62 students, although the current enrollment is 56. There are fifteen students in Masonry and Ceramics, respectively; twelve in Gardening; nine in Carpentry and five in Welding.

Sixteen years ago, the School of Restoration Trades was created: “Joseph Tantete Dubruiller”, in the city of Cienfuegos, with the aim of training active workers in the restoration process of properties located in the Historic Center of the city, declared Cultural Heritage. of Humanity by UNESCO in 2005.

The institution owes its name to the French military engineer who directed the construction of the Fortress of Our Lady of the Angels of Jagua.
