Criminals excavated and destroyed safe boxes to steal traffic light wiring in Neiva
Road safety in Neiva faces a new challenge after the recent attack on the traffic light network at the intersection of Carrera 26 and Calle 64. On this occasion, vandals stole more than 50 meters of underground wiring and an energy meter, leaving out of service at traffic lights.
The theft was committed in the early morning, when the criminals dug up the earth around the safes to lift and destroy the lids, which were solidly welded and secured with cement. This meticulous work of excavation and destruction indicates detailed knowledge of the installation and operation of traffic lights.
According to statements by the operational staff of the Ministry of Mobility, the criminals opened both boxes, cut the underground cable at both ends and extracted it from the conduit. “What the people did was break the safes, which come in concrete and were welded, fully insured, but for these people it seems that there were no details to commit this crime,” explained engineer Juan Felipe Salazar, contractor. support of the Municipality’s traffic light network.
The theft of the energy meter, located on a pole, will further complicate the situation, since its replacement must be carried out through a public process, which will significantly delay the repair of the affected traffic light network.
