In an effort to prevent and mitigate forest fires and natural disasters in the municipality of Sitionuevo and surrounding areas, the Magdalena Regional Autonomous Corporation CORPAMAG and the Sitionuevo Fire Department signed a contract whose purpose is to generate joint strategies to prevent and timely control the conflagrations that constantly occur in this municipality and in strategic ecosystems such as the Vía Parque Isla de Salamanca and the Ciénaga Grande de Santa Marta.

This alliance contemplates the development of training and acquisition of specialized equipment to respond to forest fires, thus protecting the natural areas of the municipality.

Likewise, the development of environmental awareness and education campaigns aimed at the community, emphasizing the importance of the conservation of natural resources. At the same time, joint action protocols will be established in the event of environmental emergencies, guaranteeing a rapid and effective response.

The contract also includes the completion of municipal and regional management indicators (IF Indicators), which will allow the evaluation and analysis of the impact of the implemented actions. These indicators will allow us to evaluate the efficiency of joint operations, identifying areas for improvement and reinforcing those strategies that prove to be effective.

The General Director of CORPAMAG, Dr. Alfredo Martínez Gutiérrez, highlighted the importance of the work carried out by the Sitionuevo Firefighters: «This alliance with the Fire Department is essential to ensure effective environmental management and a rapid response to emergencies. “We appreciate the work done by all the Firefighters of this municipality and together we will work to protect our environment and guarantee the safety of our community.”

For her part, the Commander of the Sitionuevo Fire Department, Margarita Velásquez, stated: “We are committed to the protection of our region and this agreement provides us with the necessary tools and resources to act in a more effective and coordinated manner.”
