Storm alert raised from yellow to orange

The Aemet has raised the storm alert to orange level this Wednesday afternoon in the Iberian region of La Rioja, specifically between four in the afternoon and twelve at night. In the rest of La Rioja, the yellow level is maintained. In both cases, storms can be accompanied by hail. The probability of this event ranges between 30 and 70 percent.

The yellow level also persists due to rain in La Rioja, which can reach 25 mm in one hour, also during the same period of time and with the same probability.

Added to this is a yellow warning for high temperatures between 1:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. this Thursday, which can reach 36 degrees.

A yellow level storm warning indicates that severe storms are expected in the affected warning area. Given the nature of these phenomena, there is a possibility that storms of greater intensity may occur from time to time.

Eight communities

Including La Rioja, a total of eight autonomous communities will be at risk this Wednesday due to storms on a day in which the maximum temperatures will decrease in a large part of the southwest of the peninsula and will rise on the southeastern coasts, in the northeastern third, the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands, according to the prediction of the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET). Specifically, the storm warnings will be, in addition to the Ribera del Ebro of La Rioja and Ibérica Riojana, in Zaragoza (Aragon); the Asturian Southwest and the Cordillera and Picos de Europa (Asturias); Cantabria del Ebro, Liébana, Center and Villaverde valley (Cantabria); Burgos, León, Palencia and Soria (Castilla y León); Lugo and Ourense (Galicia); Ribera del Ebro de Navarra (Navarra); Álava, Guipúzcoa and Vizcaya (Basque Country).
