The Government of Javier Milei defunded one of the most important sporting events in the country, the Evita National Games, which led the province of Formosa to launch its own Evita Formoseño Games. This decision responds to the lack of federal support for the traditional Evita Games, which historically were a pillar in the promotion of sports and social inclusion at the national level.
Since its inception, the Evita Games encouraged community participation in various sports disciplinesconsolidating itself as a space for meeting and competition at the national level. However, faced with defunding by the national government, in Formosa they organized their own event under the name of Juegos Evita Formoseños.
At the beginning of the month, Daniel Sciolisecretary of the Environment, Tourism and National Sports and former Buenos Aires governor with roots in Peronism, denied the versions about a name change of the Evita Games and confirmed changes in the structure and organization of the event for this year. As opposed, The Evita Formoseños Games are emerging as an alternative that seeks to maintain the principles of inclusion and participation.
The official launch of the Evita Formoseños Games is scheduled for this Friday at the headquarters of the Formosa Sports Secretariat, located in the Centenario Stadium, starting at 7 p.m. This new initiative includes participation in three categories: Under 16, Under 18 and seniors, covering a total of 42 sports disciplines.
According to the Formosa Sports area, the competition will include 27 sports for the Under 16 category, 9 sports for the Under 18 category and 6 sports for seniors. Registration will be open from July 1 to 12, with the provincial games expected to begin on August 22.
