It was expected to know the forensic opinion of the Institute of Legal Medicine on the sharp weapon wounds that Yuly Henao López, 48 years old, received, caused by his romantic partner, Carlos Estiven Martínez Barrera, 29 years old.
“We categorically reject this fact and invite the community to report any act that affects the life and integrity of our citizens through the guidance line for women victims of violence 155,” said the commander of the Santander Police.
For his part, the mayor of Cimitarra, Luis Hernando Santamaría Ariza, declared the municipality in mourning and expressed his condolences to the teacher’s family.
“We are in mourning and may his parents, his brothers and his closest friends be comforted,” said the president.
‘Velatón’ in Scimitar

There is no doubt that she was a teacher who entered the heart of the community and for that reason she is remembered with appreciation. It is necessary to put an end to these retrograde and sexist ideas of our society, which what they do is condemn us to pain, to emptiness and leave a sore in the center of a population that has suffered a lot from violence,” said Julián Grajales, a resident of Cimitarra.
Who was Yuli Henao?
Yuly Henao was a teacher at Cimitarra, he studied Children’s Pedagogy at the Ibero-American University of Bogotá and his last job was to educate the children of the El Cerrito school in the Perdidamedia neighborhood of that town in Santander.
An acquaintance of the victim, the president of the Cimitarra Council Diego Galvis, assured Q’hubo that she did not pass the last teaching competition in the department and was currently dedicating most of her time to household chores.
She was the mother of a 12-year-old minor and a 29-year-old woman with whom she lived in the Diamante neighborhood in the urban area of the municipality.
“He was looking for support to relocate to an institution, he had been out of work since the beginning of the year,” said the councilor.
On social networks, on July 20, 2023, she made public her relationship with Carlos Estiven Martínez Barrera, with whom she lived with her two children.
“That boy separated from the woman he had and went to live with Yuly. The relationship was about two years or less,” said a close friend.
What is preliminarily known was that, on the morning of this Tuesday, June 25, Yuli and Carlos, apparently, argued for reasons that are the subject of investigation.
The man, in a state of rage, allegedly threatened to murder his children and tried to do so inside the house, but she got in the way and received several wounds in the chest with a sharp weapon.
However, her children tried to defend her and the one who played the role of stepfather in the home injured them. Fortunately, the injuries were not serious.
On Facebook, Yuli Henao described herself as “Warrior, that’s how I am.”
