The call will be open until next July 18 and municipalities must send their proposals to the Seremi Minvu of the region.

Applications are open for municipalities in the communes of the Provinces of San Antonio and San Felipe to apply for the execution of projects of the Program for Small Towns of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning in territories that have a population of less than 20 thousand inhabitants.

This program aims to contribute, through a development plan, to improving the quality of life of the community and promoting these sectors that present an urban and housing deficit with works in the field of habitability, housing and recovery of public spaces.

In this regard, the Minvu minister of the region, Belén Paredes, said that “with the Program for Small Towns we can contribute to reducing the gaps that exist in some territories of our region that have particular characteristics in terms of their geography, culture and ways of life that demand specific attention. With this initiative we address these particularities, strengthening the identity, as well as rescuing the history and memory of each of these territories. For this reason, we call on the communes of the province of San Antonio and also San Felipe to present their proposals to be able to begin work, together with the communities, on a plan that allows them to advance in feeling more integrated into the region.”

Applications will be open until this coming July 18 and the proposals must be presented by the respective municipalities following the format indicated for this in the Regional Ministerial Secretariat of Housing of Valparaíso.

Once the reception stage is closed and the admissibility of the proposals has been declared, the Seremi Minvu will convene the Regional Board to be a jury in this evaluation. This table is also made up of the regional presidential delegate, the regional governor, the seremis of Economy, Social Development and Family, the director of Serviu and regional manager of the Undersecretary of Regional and Administrative Development.

Beneficiary localities

Since the beginning of this year, the town of Quintay in Casablanca began the implementation of the program. For this town, the Minvu is allocating 1.5 billion pesos to reactivate the tourist, commercial and economic development of this area. The same will begin to happen with Colliguay in Quilpué, which will soon celebrate the signing of this agreement that makes its incorporation to work official.

This work is based on the urban, housing and multisectoral components, plus the transversal axis of citizen participation. In its execution, it has considered four phases for its development over 48 months: diagnosis (to generate the qualitative and quantitative characterization of the territory); locality development plan (an instrument of the work process in the locality is generated); implementation of the town’s development plan and the closure of the intervention with its evaluation and results.

In recent years, the Small Towns Program has been present in Horcón, Juan Fernández, San Rafael, Pullally and Pachacamita and at the regional level there are 68 towns that make up the eligible universe of the program.
