Until one hundred million pesos are being offered by the authorities for those who provide information that helps clarify the massacre of seven people that occurred in the rural area of ​​Rionegro, Eastern Antioquia.

Initially, the amount of the reward in order to find the whereabouts of those responsible for this collective crime that occurred in the Cabeceras village, of this municipalityhad been 50 million pesos, but after an extraordinary security council held this Wednesday morning, the governor of Antioquia, Andrés Julián Rendón, announced that the figure would be doubled.

Apart from this determination that seeks to motivate people in the community to collaborate with the authorities, special measures were also announced so that the violent episode does not go unpunished.

“There’s a Dijín criminal investigation team that came directly from Bogotá, accompanied by the Attorney General’s Office. We believe that this combination of capabilities, plus the information that some citizens can report to us with the incentive of the reward, will allow us to quickly find those responsible for this unfortunate situation,” said Rendón,

In addition to the Governor’s office, the meeting of authorities held in Rionegro was attended by the mayor, Jorge Rivas; the local Government Secretary, Carolina Tejada; the Secretary of Security and Justice of Antioquia, Brigadier General (r) Luis Eduardo Martínez; the commander of the Joint Command No. 5, Brigadier General Hernando Garzón; the commander of the Fourth Brigade, Brigadier General Jorge Hernández; the commander of Region 6 of the National Police, Brigadier General Rosemberg Novoa; the commander of the Antioquia Police, Colonel Carlos Martínez; the sectional director of the Prosecutor’s Office in Antioquia, Daniel Parada, and representatives of the Air Force and the Attorney General’s Office.

In that instance it was determined that Army and Police will carry out joint patrols in the peripheral part of the municipality in order to exercise territorial control to prevent the circulation of criminal groups, as well as weapons.

The news of the massacre in Rionegro gave a negative tone to the encouraging results presented by the authorities so far, according to which homicides in this department have been reduced by 7.5% so far this year, compared to the same period in 2023, with the East being one of the seven subregions with a decrease in this item (16.2% fewer cases).

Regarding this fact, the commander of the Antioquia Police, Colonel Carlos Martínez, explained that the fatal attack that occurred in an invasion area in the Alto del Perro sector, in the Cabeceras village, occurred around 7:30 pm this Tuesday. Men armed with rifles arrived there and shot at the inhabitants of a house.
