The National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (Senapred) declared a red alert for the commune of Pitrufquén, in the Region of La Araucaníain the face of the threat of the river overflowing Mahidanche due to the intense frontal system that is registered in the area.

Likewise, it was declared red alert for the commune of Freire due to the municipality’s report that reported the overflow of the Estero Pelales, in the Rucahue Quepe sector, causing the flooding of homes and properties. Depending on the severity of the event, evacuation could be resorted to, availability of human resources, machinery and equipment.

According to what was reported by Senapred, the Information was provided by the General Directorate of Water (DGA)which indicates that the hydrometric network station “Río Mahuidanche in Santa Ana” in the commune of Pitrufquén, has reached the red alert threshold, generating the alarm.

The agency states that “if the flow continues to increase, it may cause damage to populated areas and infrastructure, requiring mitigation and prevention actions such as evacuations and availability of human and material resources.”

The red alert will be available from today until conditions warrant it, canceling the yellow alert that would have been declared in the first instance since June 26.

This alert enables the necessary and available resources to be mobilised to deal with the emergency.

At the same time, in the Los Ríos Region, a yellow alert was declared for the communes of Lanco and Panguipulli also due to the threat of overflow.

Additionally, sectors of lanco flooded as a result of rainfall and the increase in the flow of the Leufucade River.

Senapred indicated that “according to the information provided by the General Directorate of Water (DGA)it is indicated that the hydrometric network station ‘Río Leufucade in Purulón’ located in the communes of Lanco and Panguipulli, has reached yellow alert threshold values.”

As the night went by, the communes of Los Lagos, Máfil and Valdivia face the threat of overflowing of the Calle-Calle River.

With this measure, resources will be prepared in stages to face the emergency.
