After several years of waiting, the construction of the adduction line from the ADR valve of the El Cercado dam, on the Ranchería River, to the drinking water treatment plant of the municipality of San Juan del Cesar, La Guajira, began.

This is the first phase of the project that seeks to improve the coverage and continuity of the public home service, going from 8 to 10 hours to 24 hours with access to liquid. This was confirmed by the mayor of the municipality, Enrique Urbina Suárez, to EL PILÓN.

The president, who was at the symbolic groundbreaking ceremony last Friday, stated that currently the plant is supplied by the Cesar River, but they suffer from the low flow of the tributary in summer and murky conditions in winter, which makes it necessary to collect backup from the dam that was built with the purpose of supplying several Guajiro municipalities.

The investment for the construction of the aqueduct is $10,696 million, according to what was announced, there are around 5,160 meters of pipe. This project is part of the Departmental Water Plan and is in charge of the Departmental Company of Domestic Public Services of Aqueduct, Sewer and Cleaning (Esepgua).

The works include a conduction line of 5,160 linear meters of pipe that will carry water from the ADR valve of the Ranchería River dam to the San Juan drinking water treatment plant.

Once this part was completed, the mayor of San Juan stated that the second phase will continue, which consists of bringing water from the treatment plant to the towns of La Junta, La Peña and Curacao.
