Local authorities are mobilizing resources and requesting additional support to address this emergency to ensure the well-being of residents affected by rising river levels.

The mayor of Salamina, Edwin Pabón, has made a distressing call to prevention and disaster agencies at the departmental and national level in the face of the rising level of the Magdalena River. This situation represents a growing threat not only for Salamina and Guaimaro, but also for all the municipalities and townships located along its banks.

Pabón expressed concern for vulnerable communities that could be affected by flooding due to the continued rise of the river channel. He has therefore stressed the imperative need for an immediate and coordinated response by the national government, especially in view of the La Niña phenomenon, which continues to intensify and exacerbate the situation.

«We must act without delay to protect the safety and well-being of our citizens. The situation is becoming complicated due to the La Niña phenomenon, and we need the support of the national government to carry out the necessary measures,” said the Mayor.

Local authorities are urging the implementation of preventive and mitigation measures to protect vulnerable communities and reduce the risk of disasters. The main objective of this appeal is to mobilize the resources and support needed to address this emergency, ensuring the safety and well-being of all inhabitants of the affected areas.
