Patagonian Train: progress and recovery in San Antonio Oeste

The project, which has an investment of $400 million by the provincial State, includes significant improvements and the repair of 10 kilometers of roads between Viedma and San Antonio Oeste. It is expected that by December of this year, the train will once again link the Rio Negro capital with Bariloche, thus restoring an essential service for the region.

The president was accompanied by the Minister of Public Works and Transportation, Alejandro Echarren, the President of Tren Patagónico, Roberto López, the Mayor of San Antonio Oeste, Adrián Casadei, and the provincial legislators Luis Noale and Marcela Rossio. There they learned about the progress made in the recovery of the rolling and tractor stock of the Rio Negro company.

During the tour, the authorities visited the renovated facilities of the main station and spoke with the workshop staff, with whom they shared information about the enhancement tasks they carry out daily, with the aim of offering a quality railway service.

The tour included a visit to the formation of the traditional service that connects San Antonio Oeste with San Carlos de Bariloche, a service that was reactivated on May 31, allowing tourists and Rio Negro residents to connect the sea with the mountains.

It should be noted that in addition, the provincial government is advancing a new concession with the support of the national government, which will allow not only the continuity of the Patagonian Train, but also the completion of the Valley Train. This initiative underlines the commitment of both administrations to the development of rail transport in the region.

“Trains are not just another transportation, they are a symbol of federalism, part of our history and our identity, therefore, our commitment is total,” declared Weretilneck.

This ambitious recovery of the Patagonian Train will not only improve connectivity in the province, but will also strengthen the sense of belonging and pride among the people of Rio Negro, reaffirming the historical and cultural value of rail transport in the region.
