On this Thursday morning, a road accident was recorded at the intersection of Libertador General San Martín and Rioja avenues, in the center of San Juan. The incident occurred when a woman was getting off the RedTulum line 441 bus, at the stop located on that corner. She was accompanied by her 4-year-old son, and when she was about to cross the street through the pedestrian crossing, she was hit. As a result of the road accident, the woman suffered a fracture in one of her legs.
According to the assistant prosecutor, Emiliano Pugliese, the vehicle involved, a blue Toyota Corolla, was traveling in the same direction as the bus from which the mother and her son got off, and overtook the public transport on the left side, hitting the mother. As a result of the impact, the woman fell on top of the child.
Immediately, the presence of an ambulance and emergency medical service personnel was requested, who examined the mother at the scene and found that she suffered a fracture in her left leg, while the child had minor bruises.
Both were transferred to Guillermo Rawson Hospital to receive medical attention. According to Pugliese’s testimony, so far, a definitive diagnosis of the injuries has not been received, but it was confirmed that the mother was the one who bore the brunt.
The driver of the Toyota Corolla, surnamed Benavides and 60 years old, remained at the scene of the accident. The corresponding measures were taken, with the presence of criminalistics personnel who took photographs and collected data for the planimetry.
In addition, a mechanical technical report was carried out on the vehicles involved and the arrival of traffic personnel was awaited to carry out the pertinent breathalyzer control and test the driver. On the other hand, the vehicle will be transferred to the third police station, which has jurisdiction over the place, to carry out other examinations and link it to the file.
Regarding the legal situation of the driver, in principle his arrest is not expected. However, background checks will be performed and all vehicle documentation will be reviewed at the Police Station.
