The department of Santander currently has five airports, one in Bucaramanga, another in Malaga, in the García Rovira province; another in Socorro, which is handled for cargo, another in San Gil known as Los Pozos and in Barrancabermeja.

Currently, only the Palonegro airport in Bucaramanga, the oil port, operates and the San Gil airport recently restarted air routes, however, the intention of the Santander government in the voice of the retired general, Juvenal Díaz Mateus, the intention is that the department have greater connectivity with the García Rovira province and the Guanentá province.

For this reason he announced in a meeting that at Malaga airport (García Rovira Province) Several adjustments will be made, such as, for example; build a depression for a pedestrian crossing that is needed and while this is being developed, Civil Aeronautics will be in charge of improving the runway, this in order for it to be put into operation so that the region connects with said province that needs it.

He also highlighted that the Los Pozos airport, located in San Gil, that had suspended routes is already enabled and some improvements were made to their infrastructure, which was what the competent authorities requested.

Meanwhile, another connectivity that we want to realize and promote It is in the municipality of Socorro, There, in that province, there is a cargo airport, but it wants to be studied to achieve its development and promotion.

“We must make some adjustments to the Malaga airport, we must build a depression for the pedestrian crossing. While the Civil Aeronautics is in charge of the runway, we will be in charge of security and other aspects that need intervention. We must do it because we urgently need to connect the province of García Rovira,” the governor revealed.

In addition to these announcements, something that had already been documented and made official was also announced and it is a route with the Spirit airline to the United States from Bucaramanga.

It will resume operations from December 4, for one month only, that is, during the peak holiday season during the Christmas season.
