‘Talento Magdalena’ of the University of Magdalena, in the municipality of Cerro de San Antonio, is considered as that great opportunity that the children of that riverside municipality have, who finished high school to have access to the main institution of Higher Education of the Department .
In recent days, with the assistance of the rector Pablo Vera Salazar and the mayor Mirith Lafaurie, an agreement was signed consisting of an alternative for young people with limited resources from the riverside town to fulfill their dream of being a professional and improving their economic conditions.
After the agreement was reached, the local official was pleased and pointed out that this is the best contribution to the education of the young people of the population, and indicated that all efforts will be made to strengthen local education.
He maintained that, since that moment, Cerro de San Antonio has had support from the University of Magdalena to expand the Talento Magdalena quotas in the municipality, to provide the opportunity to many young people who cannot access higher education, due to lack of of economic means and remain without doing anything.
Mayor Lafaurie is practical by stating that, since the signing of the agreement, five young people will benefit; two of these through the University of Magdalena, which sponsors them, and three that will enter through the municipal administration.
“We are going to expand that quota and we are going to continue maintaining it over time, which gives us the possibility that many young people during this four-year period can benefit from quality higher education,” he explained.
In turn, the rector of the University of Magdalena, Pablo Vera Salazar, highlighted the commitment acquired by the mayor with the ‘Talento Madalena’ program, a fact that he valued by considering it as the most important opportunity for those students who do not have the resources economics necessary to become professionals.
