Dengue cases continue to increase in Huila

Until epidemiological week 24 of 2024, 16,618 cases of dengue have been reported, showing a significant increase of 697% compared to the average of previous years.

Distribution and Classification of Cases

Of the reported cases:

62.8% were dengue without warning signs.

34.6% dengue with warning signs.

2.4% severe dengue.

Most cases without warning signs were managed on an outpatient basis (88.5%). However, 11.5% errors in driving behavior were evident. For cases with warning signs:

60.2% were hospitalized.

15.3% managed under observation.

18.4% referred to a higher level of complexity.

Regarding serious cases:

91.8% were treated in the ICU.

5.9% referred to a higher level of complexity.

1.2% managed in a hospital manner.

Sociodemographic Impact

Dengue has affected both men and women equally, with a slightly higher incidence in women (51.81%). The most affected age groups include childhood (6 to 11 years) and adolescence (12 to 17 years), with rates of 3104.0 and 2562.9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants respectively.

Measurements and Recommendations

Faced with this situation, the Ministry of Health has reinforced interventions from the Vector-Borne Diseases (VTE) program, entomological and laboratory surveillance, and epidemiological surveillance in coordination with the territorial entities, EAPB, IPS and UNM. The population is urged to follow health recommendations and collaborate with health authorities to mitigate the impact of dengue in the region.
