As part of the social activities of the San Cristóbal Municipal Museum, a meeting on drug consumption prevention took place in the town’s public library.

The talk was guided by Dr. Sergio Márquez Jaca, master in social violence, and the ideological politician of the Party Eliecer Gómez Varela participated, and representatives of institutions such as the home for children without family protection, the Ministry of the Interior (MININT), Mental Health and library.

Drug addiction was addressed from a multi-sectoral perspective and Dr. Ricardo Ángel González Menéndez was honored for his dedication to studying this phenomenon that has a significant impact on human deterioration.

With this multidisciplinary perspective, the work of religious institutions and the media that contribute to preventive work against the danger of addiction, especially for adolescents and young people, was considered.

Avoiding crimes associated with drug consumption is another objective of this type of encounters and typical cases have been identified that are controlled and attended to in conjunction with the prosecutor’s office.

Alcohol and cigarettes were highlighted as gateway drugs and the need to regulate the conduct of minors in recreational centres in relation to the presence of these substances was stressed.

An interesting fact provided by Sergio Márquez was the occurrence of more than 40 million divorces in Latin America due to drugs in recent years.

The impact on a sick person due to addiction is multidirectional, affecting all spheres of his or her life. Avoiding drug addiction contributes to saving.
