Bartolome Valle Buenestado He is now the new president of the Royal Academy of Sciences, Fine Arts and Fine Arts of Córdoba after obtaining the majority of votes from the full members called to the polls this Thursday. The voting was held behind closed doors at 8:00 p.m. and 31 of the 35 members who were called to attend the Góngora Institute in person participated, since telematic voting was not permitted. At 8:00 p.m., the doors of the center were closed and voting began.

An hour later, the count had ended, with the candidate being the winner. Bartolomé Valle Buenestado (with 18 votes compared to Roldán’s 12 and one blank). Valle went to the polls with a list also made up of the poet and professor of Language and Literature Manuel Gahete Jurado who appears as vice president, Marisol Salcedo Morillateacher and collaborator of Diario CÓRDOBA as secretary, Professor Alfonso Porras de la Puente treasurer and as librarian, the former director of the Museum of Fine Arts, José María Palencia Cerezo.

This is the first time in more than twenty years that the presidency of the Royal Academy is disputed between more than one candidate, since the two previous presidents, both José Cosano and Joaquín Criado, went to the polls on all occasions as only option.

The winning candidate has explained his proposals to this newspaper. In the opinion of Valle Buenestado, «the Royal Academy of Córdoba It is a very important institution that is anchored in time in terms of forms, content and procedures, being almost anachronistic in its concept and operation. That is why he considers “a renewal of people and attitudes that, integrating tradition and modernity, is necessary and urgent, transports it to the present time.”

A space for people and institutions to converge

For the new president, who has been president since the moment he is mentioned in the minutes, without the need to take official possession, “the Academy must be a space of convergence of people and institutions, of science, culture and arts, of society and of the Academy itself. And all of this presided over by the harmonious integration of the academic body and the environment, making the Academy a space and a collective project in accordance with the current and classic meaning of the term.”

For the elected candidate, in this way “he will be able to increase the living heritage of Cordoba, for which purpose the candidacy that we present is aware of the work and the commitment that it acquires for the benefit of Cordoba society and, in the first instance, of the Academy itself.”
