Senator Andrea Padilla questioned the removal of the statue of César Rincón in Duitama

The senator of the Green Alliance, Andrea Padilla, considered the removal of the statue of the bullfighter César Rincón unnecessary at an official ceremony in Duitama, Boyacá.

The mayor of Duitama, José Luis Bohórquez and animal rights protesters participated in the removal of the statue of the Colombian bullfighter César Rincón, in front of the municipality’s bullring.

The event generated controversy, as some consider that property damage was committed. The animalist senator from the Green Alliance rejected the act, pointing out that the statue could have been removed without the need to offend a sector of society.

“In public life, forms matter; having done it in an aggressive and disrespectful manner casts a shadow of doubt on those of us who have been working peacefully for years for animal rights,” said the senator in an interview with Cable Noticias.

The congresswoman also pointed out that the statue could even have been left with a plaque in memory of the murdered bulls.

“I believe this action was unnecessary. They were able to take down the statue calmly, without needing to offend a sector of Colombians or, better yet, leave it to remember the past and not repeat it, attaching a plaque in memory of the murdered bulls. “I think those who did this are wrong: they sow resentment and waste resources on populist acts,” he wrote through X.

Finally, he warned the local administration about the importance of correctly investing resources for the transformation of the bullrings.

“I hope that the transformation plan for the bullrings that has been announced since @ProsperidadCol is not a waste of public resources: resources that we need to implement the law #SterilizeSaveto replace animal-drawn vehicles, to build centers to care for wild animals, and for a long list of actions that will save animal lives,” he said.
