A fruitful and fraternal virtual exchange, symbol of the historic and endearing relations between Cuba and Vietnam, took place this Thursday between Homero Acosta Álvarez, secretary of the National Assembly of People’s Power and the Council of State, and Bui Van Cuong, secretary general and president from the Office of the National Assembly of the brother Asian country.

At the beginning of his speech, Acosta Álvarez conveyed warm greetings from the member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Party Esteban Lazo Hernández, head of the Cuban legislature, to his Vietnamese counterpart, Tran Thanh Man; Just as he expressed his satisfaction at holding this working meeting, through videoconference, which is part of the actions provided for in the Cooperation Protocol signed by both National Assemblies.

Close ties unite Cuba and Vietnam, unbreakable historical ties and brotherhood forged by Fidel Castro and Ho Chi Minh; an exemplary relationship, a symbol of our time, of deep solidarity and unity, especially in the most difficult moments that both peoples have faced, said the Secretary of the supreme body of State power.

He also discussed the current Cuban situation and expressed special thanks for Vietnam’s continued solidarity, for the donations received in difficult and complex times, for the firm condemnation of the US blockade in international forums and for the demand for Cuba’s exclusion from the spurious list of alleged state sponsors of terrorism drawn up by the US.

For his part, Bui Van Cuong recalled the cordial meetings held with his Cuban counterpart in Hanoi in November 2022 and in Havana in April 2023. The Party, the State and the people of Vietnam always remember Fidel’s immortal phrase “For “Vietnam, we are willing to give even our own blood” and always value, preserve and are determined to deepen the special traditional relationship of solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba, he added.

Both parties agreed to increase interparliamentary cooperation in different areas of mutual interest, including digital transformation, social communication, and science and innovation.

The virtual meeting was attended by ambassadors from both nations, as well as executives and officials from the two legislative bodies.
