The commune of Guaitecas is preparing for a new San Pedro Festival, the most important religious festival that is experienced during the year in the commune, given the large number of artisanal fishermen among its inhabitants and who have San as their patron saint. Pedro.

Prior to the festivities, the traditional novena has been taking place in the church of Melinka and other activities are planned during the week, such as a cantata and a fair for local entrepreneurs.

In this regard, the mayor of Marcos Silva indicated that, as in previous years, the municipality has put itself at the service of the fishermen and their organizations, as well as the community belonging to the Catholic Church of the commune to collaborate in this traditional festival, the most important of the community.

“We have always been available, willing and eager to cooperate, since the municipality is not the one that organizes the activities, since the festival belongs to the fishermen, so it is them and their organizations that carry out the San Pedro Festival. move forward and as we have done in recent years, we contribute and support,” said Mayor Silva.

The communal authority indicated that this year the municipality will collaborate, among other contributions, with the party after the religious celebration and also with food and drinks to share after the traditional procession of the image of the saint through Melinka Bay. This municipal contribution, said Mayor Marcos Silva, arose from the resources that this year came to the municipality through the mining royalty.

“We have allocated resources from the mining royalty to celebrate the feast of Saint Peter as it should be and we have resources to share after the procession of the saint through the sea. It is a communal and patronal festival in which the church summons its parishioners and the fishermen, because we are talking about the patron saint of fishermen,” said Marcos Silva.
