Ecopetrol and Petrobras announced the start of drilling the Uchuva-2 well in the Tayrona Block, located in the Colombian Caribbean, as part of their commitment to the country’s energy transition towards more sustainable sources.

This well, of an evaluative nature, seeks to validate the discovery of natural gas made in July 2022 in the Uchuva-1 exploratory well, located 32 km in a straight line from the coast and 76 km from Santa Marta.

In the Tayrona Block, Petrobras acts as operator with a 44.4% stake, while Ecopetrol owns 55.6%.

Ecopetrol has been working intensively with an interdisciplinary team for several months to consolidate and develop offshore projects that allow the region to take advantage of its gas potential and meet the demands of the energy transition.

Elsa Jeanneth Jaimes, Vice President of Offshore at Ecopetrol, highlighted that: “Uchuva-1 was a very significant discovery for Ecopetrol and Colombia, reaffirming the importance of the Caribbean as a crucial source of gas for our country. Uchuva-2 will provide us with crucial information to plan and execute the connection with consumption centers, contributing to the national energy supply.“.
