The Government ended this Thursday clear the tangle of resolutions that, during the management of Alberto Fernandezlook for control the prices of Internet, mobile phone and cable services. It did so through resolution 13/2024 of the Enacom, the National Communications Agency.

This standard cancels a series of measures that the entity had taken during the previous government, as a result of decree 690/2020 which had declared Information and Communications Technology (ICT) services and access to telecommunications networks as public services essential. As this decree had already been repealed in April (DNU 302/2024), the rules that regulated it are now annulled.

During the pandemic, the previous government had frozen Internet and mobile phone prices first and then had established stops for the increases. However, In practice, the official intention was limited by the various judicial resolutions. which were obtained by the main providers, who appealed the measure.

Therefore, the elimination of all these rules in practice will not produce changes in prices, because The service companies maintained the updates through precautionary measures obtained in court.

“Enacom, on the basis of decree 302, repeals all resolutions based on decree 690. It is a matter of administrative order and according to the rulings of Justice. Absolutely nothing changes in the market. The prices that companies have are what they are going to follow,” explained Walter Burzaco, president of ATVC, the Argentine Association of ICT, Video and Connectivity.

In Thursday’s resolution, Enacom recalls the considerations of the April decree, which states that “ICT services have been created in competition, as well as the provision of mobile communications services, being an essential faculty for its development and growth the possibility of “that licensees can set their prices freely”.

And he adds that Alberto Fernández’s DNU “establishes an essential modification on the legal framework of the sector, which must be corrected in order to safeguard the rules that allow the development of a competitive market and the free setting of prices of the services provided.”
