The capital of Valle del Cauca has 5 care routes to provide support and protection to the elderly population, taking into account that they are valuable people for our society and our management revolves around their development and well-being.
It is vital that citizens are always alert to possible cases of violence and abuse against older adults and are part of the network that activates these routes. A threat, a hit, a push, verbal abuse and all these scourges that express violence must be reported in time.
The Ministry of Social Welfare leads the design of the five care routes for elderly victims of violence, with the purpose of raising awareness, educating and preventing the types of violence that affect this population in coordination with different government entities, the type of violence can be: physical, psychological, sexual, economic, patrimonial or negligence and abandonment.
Flavio Carabalí, Undersecretary of Populations and Ethnicities, was emphatic when stating that “we reject and categorically condemn any type of violence, abandonment and abuse that may occur against the elderly in our city, to date four cases have been identified in “the Program Office for the Elderly, the invitation is to report and not remain silent.”
The care routes work from Prevention and Promotion, one of the axes of the Public Policy on Aging and Old Age (Municipal Agreement 0420 of 2017) promoting in the communes, districts and different public and private institutions the good treatment of the elderly, the rights, duties that the population has and the accompaniment in the care route, depending on the type of violence that occurs, there is an entity in charge of activating the route, such as health organizations, family police stations, the Prosecutor’s Office, the Family Ombudsman / ICBF, the Police and Legal Medicine.
