The Airport meteorologist, Marcelo Madelón, explained in Chain 3 the “Zonda effect” phenomenon, which caused an “artificial” increase in temperature in Córdoba.

According to him, this phenomenon is caused by a northwesterly wind that comes from the mountains and, as it descends, “it compresses, heats up and dries out.”

“While today (Thursday) in Córdoba it was about 27 degrees high, in other locations, for example in Río Cuarto and Villa Dolores, it is now about 13 and 14, respectively,” he said.

Therefore, according to the meteorologist, this heat is momentary and it is a phenomenon that has already happened before.

In fact, he warned about the possibility of fires breaking out due to the heat and dryness caused by the Zonda wind.

In addition, Madelón warned that every time there is a Zonda wind, the south wind comes later.

“This is going to lead to a marked drop in temperature. It means that we are going to return to normal values for this time of year,” he added and announced that, for this Friday, the cold is expected to return.

Along these lines, he expanded: “The cold is returning, which is what we are expecting for tomorrow (Friday). Even on the weekend there will surely be frost. On Saturday we expect a minimum of one degree and a maximum of 14. In suburban areas , the minimum temperatures will be in the order of 2 or 3 degrees below zero, so the frosts will be almost general.”

Finally, the specialist ruled out the possibility of snow, at least in the next few days. “We would need slightly lower temperatures. But, mainly, we need humidity so that clouds form and precipitate,” he said.
