In the last five years, the acquisition of knowledge about Ataxia, with the use of this technology, has occupied space in the scientific community of the center, whose contributions are used by the Ministry of Public Health.

Together with the Center for Research and Rehabilitation of Hereditary Ataxias, its research with the exploitation of artificial intelligence is aimed at improving the quality of life of the elderly, in addition to providing products for commercial purposes that generate foreign currency for the country.

Coupled with the UC, the Cuban Academy of Sciences, the “Rafael Estrada” National Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery, are also important pillars of collaboration.

Other results with the use of artificial intelligence also show the diagnosis and treatment of chronic subdural hematoma in Camagüey.

While strengthening capacities to mitigate the presence of microplastics in local food chains from a health perspective, they also stand out with the support of this technology.

In recent years, artificial intelligence has also become a way to analyze biomedical data, while the production of antibodies at the Center for Molecular Immunology has also been beneficial due to the novelty of these technologies.

In addition to the design of a stimulation program for older adults with cognitive impairment and executive dysfunction, which is being developed by the UC itself, the studies are also aimed at animal health.

Institutions such as the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology of Camagüey are also involved in the exploitation of artificial intelligence.

This has enabled the scaling up of synthesis of a vaccine against ticks, as well as the development of a drug to treat rabbit haemorrhagic disease.

The first university founded by the Cuban Revolution in 1967, has been instrumental in the inauguration of the Center for Artificial Intelligence Studies in Hebei, China.

This institution was opened in November 2023 and Camagüey specialists are currently a pillar for it, an example of the stronghold of human capital and science in Cuba.
