Million-dollar theft of connectivity equipment in El Paso

Three antennas and two radios were stolen from the headquarters of the Mayor’s Office of El Paso, Cesar, where the antenna is located that is part of a free internet connectivity system for users of the towns of Cuatro Vientos, Potrerillo and the urban area of ​​this town.

Richard Ríos Patiño, director of Ecorza, director of the development royalties, technology and knowledge transfer and innovation project of the National University of Colombia, in alliance with other institutions, strongly rejects this event that occurred on the night of June 22, approximately at 9:40 at night.

The LAP GPS sector antennas and AIRFIBER 5XHD radios were stolen, as these are critical equipment for establishing point-to-point links and providing internet services to end users in the aforementioned areas.

“The theft of these devices has caused a total interruption in the internet service, affecting end users. In addition, the theft represents a considerable financial loss for the municipality,” explained Ríos Patiño.

This is a million-dollar theft whose equipment of high commercial value is part of the free connectivity project of the municipality of El Paso composed of 3 telecommunications towers with point-to-point and multipoint antennas to provide connectivity to both the urban area and the townships. pointed out.

This illegal act is already in the hands of the Attorney General’s Office through a criminal complaint filed for the crime of theft. In addition, a call is made to the community to respect and take care of the technological equipment of the project that is consolidated as a connectivity solution for this municipality and to the competent authorities to advance in clarifying the facts and take the necessary measures to protect the system infrastructure.

It is worth indicating that the initiative is part of the free connectivity system installed in the urban population centers and townships of El Paso, Astrea, Pailitas, Chimichagua, Chiriguaná, Curumaní and Tamalameque, with which 8,532 people benefit, a project executed by the National University of Colombia, La Paz, Bogotá and Medellín, in alliance with the Popular University of Cesar and the private company Gestión INTU SAS.
