This Thursday, June 27, an extensive debate was held in the Chamber of Deputies of the Nation regarding the Base Law that promotes mileism. During this marathon session, the representative for San Juan, Nancy Picón, was involved in a strong confrontation with another representative. The controversy began over some posters with the face of little Loan Peña who has been missing from his house in Corrientes for two weeks.
Representative Picón began her speech by saying that she will support in general and in particular the rule proposed by the government of Javier Milei. The woman from San Juan recalled that Congress has been working on the Bases Law for 183 days and she recalled that a rule that establishes a labor reform is still expected to be debated.
In the middle of the speech, Picón assured that: “at least it seems strange, contradictory” that on February 6, at the time of voting, an important sector of deputies voted against federal forces being able to get involved in trafficking cases. The woman from San Juan added that there were legislators who “today spent their energy putting up posters, the truth is that they don’t pay us a salary to put up a poster, they pay us a salary to legislate and what we should have done was legislate and accompany those measures to that the federal forces have those tools to be able to work,” said the legislator.
“It would have been better to spend this energy on putting up a poster, if they wanted to put up a poster, against Alperovich (former governor of Tucumán imprisoned for abuse), Espinoza or someone else. It is sad not to hear them express themselves on this,” added the Sanjuanina.
As soon as Picón finished speaking, Germán Pedro Martínez, deputy of Unión por la Patria, took the floor. The legislator did not name Picón, but said that the pre-opinion legislator did not know about the issue she was talking about.
“It’s a shame that in the chamber things that are circulated as fake news on social networks are taken. The deputy should know what the original project said, she should have read it, it had to do with the bases for the delegation, there were no proposals of any kind. The one who removed the delegation was the government that you support, it is generating a fake that it brings to this chamber,” said the pro-Santa Fe deputy vehemently.
Shortly after, Picón took the floor again and named the deputy: “First I want to tell you that I am not going to allow you to question what I know or don’t know,” said Picón, visibly upset, as she said that Martínez was looking at his cell phone without paying attention to her.
“I can assure you that I know much more than some of those who occupy a seat there know, perhaps not like the deputy who has been in a seat for years,” said Picón, adding that another deputy told him that it was a shame that they used Loan with Political purposes. “They would have used those energies that he has for other cases in which there was a deafening silence like with Alperovich,” Picón closed to the applause of some of those present.

“From our Production and Work block from San Juan we are going to accompany in general and in particular we do so because we understand, as we did from the beginning, that they are necessary laws in an Argentina that was in a position to be absolutely destroyed. It is a shame that such a rich Argentina , which has all the resources, unfortunately our young people were trying to leave our country because of how we were,” said the legislator.
The Sanjuanina then continued talking about the project, about the modifications made to it in the Senate, including the protection of local sources of employment and the reactivation of public works.
He also added that “in San Juan we have listened to the different sectors of chambers and associations and we understand the need and importance of approving the RIGI,” said Picón in relation to the creation of a regime to promote large investments.
